MACHANG: The State Customs Department recently dealt a significant blow to a syndicate involved in the illicit sale of frozen chicken, seizing nearly RM130,000 worth of these items.

Kelantan Customs director Wan Jamal Abdul Salam Wan Long said the operation, targeting a company processing sliced chicken, was conducted by a team from the enforcement division in Rantau Panjang, who acted on public tip-offs regarding the unauthorised sale of frozen chicken.

"During the raid on a premises in Machang district at 8.30am on Monday, our officers discovered 6,000kg of frozen chicken, packed in 400 packages.

"This seizure includes the value of the chicken as well as unpaid taxes," he said in a statement today.

Wan Jamal said several people were also detained to assist in the ongoing investigation.

He said preliminary findings suggested that the seized chicken was smuggled into the state from a neighbouring country.

The syndicate reportedly used illegal jetties along Sungai Golok river to transport the items before repackaging them under the company's brand, Wan Jamal added.
