ALOR STAR: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry seized 100,000 units of counterfeit pre-mixed coffee packets from a beverage processing factory and a storage premises in Mergong Industrial Area yesterday.

Also seized during the 10am raid was a roll of plastic packaging featuring the counterfeit trademark logo, with the total value of the seizure amounting to RM95,100.00.

The ministry's state office director Muhammad Nizam Jamaluddin said the raid was conducted following a complaint received from a representative of the trademark owner.

"Raids of both premises found a quantity of pre-mixed coffee packets bearing a registered trademark suspected to be counterfeit," he said in a statement today.

He said case is being investigated under the Trademarks Act 2019 which carries a fine of up to RM10,000 for each item marked with the incorrect registered trademark or imprisonment for up to three years.

"The ministry would like to remind everyone that selling counterfeit goods will result in strict action and greatly appreciates any information or complaints from the public regarding the sale of such goods," he added.
