KUALA LUMPUR: Four Taiwanese nationals who were wanted by the authorities in Taiwan were among those arrested during a raid on suspicion of attempting to establish a scam call centre in Malaysia.
Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said the raid, conducted at two premises in Kuala Lumpur, was carried out in collaboration with the Taiwanese police.
He said the four individuals were handed over to the Malaysian Immigration Department on Feb 13.
"In the raid on Jan 30, four Taiwanese men, three local men and one local woman were detained.
"Based on information shared with the Taiwanese police, all four Taiwanese men are wanted by the authorities for their involvement in fraud and organised crime there.
"We already handed them over to the Malaysian Immigration Department on Feb 13 for further action," he said today.
Twelve mobile phones, documents, three passports, two access cards and two cars were also seized during the raid.
All detainees are aged between 31 and 44.
Ramli added that the syndicate had yet to be established in Malaysia as they were arrested just a few days after arriving here.
"The locals who were arrested were believed to be the 'facilitators' who would help arrange and set up operations here before the arrival of the mastermind from Taiwan.
"We believe that cooperation with the Taiwanese police in this case has successfully prevented the establishment of another scam call center in Malaysia."
