ALOR GAJAH: Police detained six men, including one Form One student, believed to be involved in several armed robberies in the district.

The suspects, aged between 13 and 27 were arrested in operations in Simpang Ampat, here and Sik, Kedah last Monday and Tuesday.

Alor Gajah district police chief Superintendent Arshad Abu said three of the suspects, including a 13-year-old student, will be charged in court today.

"They will be charged according to Section 394 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same act at the Alor Gajah Court, while the other three will be released," he said in a statement today.

Arshad said they suspects are believed to have robbed seven foreign farmers with three cases reported last December.

He said, the suspects not only escaped with valuables and cash, but also acted violently by slashing and beating the victims with iron rods and a machete

"The first incident occured at about 1.30am, on Dec 4  which involved three Bangladeshi nationals. They were robbed by five armed and masked men in a vegetable farm in Kampung Padang Kambing, Simpang Ampat.

"The second incident involved another three Bangladeshi men who were robbed by eight men using the same modus operandi. The victim made a report on Dec 4 claiming to have been robbed the day before at the Kampung Melekak vegetable farm," he said.

Arshad said another report was received from the farm manager who claimed that one of his Bangladeshi workers was hacked and robbed by six men at the farm in Jalan Kebus Simpang Ampat 1 on Dec 20.

In total, he said, the suspect robbed almost RM9,000 in cash and took four mobile phones.
