JEMPOL: A bride, who had to enlist her family's help to cook meals for her wedding last Sunday, had engaged with the wedding planner solely online, say police.

Jempol District Police Chief, Superintendent Hoo Chang Hook said preliminary investigations revealed that the 26-year-old victim had engaged with a wedding planner from Shah Alam, Selangor on April 3.

He said the victim then proceeded to make the first payment as an online deposit amounting to RM2,780.

"The victim then made a second payment on June 17 of RM5,554 and subsequently a third payment of RM4,954 on Aug 30.

"Overall, the victim made online payments totaling RM13,200, and the payments were made to a company," he said in a statement.

Hoo added that the payments were for the wedding reception held last Sunday but the victim claimed not to have received the promised package.

He said initial investigations also found that the victim was deceived in the wedding package dealings on Facebook and only conducted transactions online.

Therefore, he said the police will obtain information about the catering company from the Companies Commission of Malaysia today.

"The police are also tracing the bank account number used and obtaining the account owner's information through the Commercial Crime Intelligence System (CCIS).

"The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code," he said.
