KUANTAN: Police are scrutinising closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) footage to track down suspects responsible for breaking into a house before making off with two safe boxes and valuables worth RM140,000 at Tok Sira here on Dec 8.

Three masked men had entered the house belonging to a trader about 5pm before stealing cash, jewellery, luxury watches, branded handbags and carting away the two safe boxes.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said CCTV footage revealed the suspects arrived in a multi-purpose vehicle before walking into the premises.

"The house main gate was open and the suspects had forced open the house sliding door. The victim and his family members were not at home during the incident.

"We have obtained the CCTV footage from the premises and are in the midst of examining it to identify the suspects, and the vehicle used during the robbery. We believe the suspects had been watching the premises for some time before striking," he told reporters during a press conference here today.

On a separate case, Wan Mohd Zahari said the Kuantan police today destroyed 721 units of bitcoin mining machines worth RM88,000 which were seized between 2021 and November this year.

"All cases involving the seized items have been completed and received the approval from the court. The cases were probed under Section 427 of the Penal Code for theft and Section 37 of the Electricity Supply Act 1990," he said.
