GEORGE TOWN: A technician was charged at two separate Sessions Courts here today with 11 counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM46,000 in sales of refrigerators.
Wong Yie Hang, 27, claimed trial to all charges which were read to him by the court interpreters before Judge Mazdi Abdul Hamid and Mohamad Khalid Ab Karim.
Wong was charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code. He faced five charges in Mazdi's court and six charges in Khalid's court.
He is alleged to have committed the offences in his capacity as the then director of a refrigeration company, by allegedly using the money from the sales of the refrigerators to a private company for his personal interests.
He allegedly committed the offences in an auditor's office at Wisma Seri Perak here between Nov 2019 and Sept 2021.
He faces imprisonment of between two and 20 years with whipping, and shall also be liable to a fine, if found guilty.
Deputy Public Prosecutors Nurnajihatul Idayu Mohd Azuyar and S. Preeya Darrsini prosecuted.
In Mazdi's court, Wong was unrepresented while in Khalid's court, he was represented by Md Yusuf Md Idris.
Nurnajihatul asked the court to set bail at RM6,000 with one surety for each of the five charges.
She also asked the court to impose additional conditions — that the accused report to the nearest police station on the 1st of every month until the disposal of the case, surrender his passport to the court and not to disturb any of the prosecution witnesses.
Wong appealed for a lower bail, saying he only earns RM4,000 monthly as a technician.
"I am still a bachelor and I have to care for my parents and younger sibling who is still studying," he said.
At Khalid's court, Preeya told the court that no bail was offered.
"If the court intends to grant bail, I hope it will be a high bail with additional conditions," she said.
Md Yusuf told the court that the bail was only to secure his client's attendance in court and not to punish him.
"My client also promised to ensure his presence in court at all times if bail is granted.
"I appealed to the court to consider my client's economic and social standing when granting bail," he added.
Mazdi and Khalid set bail at RM14,000 and RM6,000 with one surety in total.
They also imposed additional conditions.
They fixed Dec 7 for mention for document submission.
