KUALA LUMPUR: The police work closely with various government agencies and the religious departments to curb the spread of deviant teachings and misguided beliefs within the country.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said police take the dissemination of deviant teachings seriously, as it can pose a security threat and disrupt public order.

Vigilant monitoring, he said, was carried out in this matter to ensure that no followers or practitioners of deviant teachings exceed safety parameters.

"Throughout 2022-2023, 51 police reports were recorded regarding the activities of deviant groups, where 23 arrests have been made.

"The arrests include 20 involving the Tarekat Habib Shah and one arrest each for the teachings of Ilmu Akhir Zaman, Nur Mutiara Makrifatullah (NMM), and Suhaini @ Sihulk.

"Police are closely monitoring six deviant teachings groups that are of security concern, namely the Tarikat Habib Shah, the Dewan Perkasa Ekonomi Islam Nusantara (DPEIN), Perjalanan Mimpi Yang Terakhir (PMYT), Millah Abraham@Ibrahim (MA), Ajaran Suhaini @ Sihulk, Nur Mutiara Mutmainnah (NMM), and The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light."

Razarudin said police will take firm and uncompromising action under the provisions of the Penal Code and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 against followers of deviant teachings if they are found to be disrupting public order.
