JULAU: A man was arrested for attempted murder after firing off several shots at a pickup truck belonging to a woman who had rejected his romantic advances.

Julau district police chief, Deputy Superintendent Andam Sulin, said police were alerted to the incident at 10.45pm on August 23.

The report was lodged by a man who claimed that his daughter's Toyota Hilux was fired upon while she was on her way home to Sungai Pinang, Jalan Wak Buku Pakan here.

At 5.30pm the following day, a team of policemen from the Sarawak police contingent headquarters and the Julau police criminal investigation department arrested the suspect, who is in his 20s.

Andam said police also seized several firearms, including two homemade shotguns, two homemade air rifles, a Clever Mirage 12 bullet, as well as a 12 Mirage shotgun shell.

"The suspect was then brought to the Julau district police headquarters for further questioning," he said.
