KUALA LUMPUR: A traffic policeman who issued a summons to a motorist for not displaying his vehicle road tax has landed in hot soup for not keeping up to date with latest government policy on the matter.

Petaling Jaya police chief assistant commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin said an internal investigation against the ignorant cop had been initiated for negligence in carrying out his duties.

In a statement issued today, Fakhrudin said police had also cancelled the summons.

The issue came to light following a viral post uploaded on one Faiz Sulaiman's Facebook page on Apr 18.

In his posting, the account holder had uploaded and shared a picture of the police summons issued to him at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang on Apr 16.

He was issued the summons for failing to display his road tax on his car.

Fakhrudin clarified that all policeman at the airport had been directed not to issue summons to motorists who fail to display their road tax following an announcement by Transport Minister Anthony Loke on the issued on Feb 10.

Loke had then announced that private vehicle owners will no longer need to display their road tax on the windscreen or carry a physical copy of their driving licence.
