KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Election Commission (EC) to investigate all videos of allegedly corrupt acts being spread on social media.

Secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the videos, said to be taken during the 15th General Election (GE15), clearly showed the act of bribing voters, which he said was an offence under the Election Offences Act 1954.

"If politicians used money during the two-week campaign period to bribe voters, then it is not ethical. You can give handouts to the needy outside of the campaign period," he says.

"I hope MACC and EC will investigate these videos on social media," he told Berita Harian today.

On Jan 3, Terengganu Umno filed an election petition at the Kuala Terengganu High Court to challenge the GE15 results of three Parliamentary seats: Marang, Kuala Terengganu and Kemaman.

The seats, which were won by Pas candidates, were being challenged for alleged corrupt practices during campaigning.

Terengganu Umno liaison chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Said claimed that Pas had handed out money between Nov 15 and 17, two days before polling day, with most households receiving between RM500 and RM1,000.

Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had denied such allegations on Saturday, and defended the handouts as "charity".

To date, Barisan Nasional had filed four election petitions in Marang, Kuala Terengganu, Kemaman and Gua Musang.
