KOTA BARU: The director of a government department who was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday, has been remanded for two days at the Magistrate court here today.

Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid granted the remand order against the 58-year-old director under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Kelantan MACC director Rosli Husain said the remand order would end tomorrow (June 7).

He said the case is being investigated under Section 16 and 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

Earlier, the director arrived at the Kota Baru court complex around 8.20am in a MACC van.

Clad in an orange t-shirt and dark blue pants, the director was later escorted to the Magistrate court.

It was reported yesterday a director of a government department was arrested by MACC for allegedly accepting bribes totalling more than RM100,000.

The man was detained at the state MACC office in Lundang here in the evening,

Sources said that the director of an enforcement department is believed to have received the money from the department's clients in exchange for approving contract works.

"The director allegedly accepted the bribes as inducement for facilitating the approval of these works," the source disclosed.
