PASIR MAS: Eleven Myanmar immigrants, all females, were arrested for entering the country illegally in the Kelar area here today.

They were found hiding in a cemetery and detained by a police party from the district police headquarters.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Nasaruddin Md Nasir said police were conducting their normal duties at the area when they received a public tip-off on smuggling activities.

"When they arrived at Madrasah Kubur Tok Wali about 10.30am, they saw several people hiding in the cemetery.

"Checks revealed that none had any travel documents to enter the country," he said in a statement.

Initial investigations showed the foreigners entered Kelantan via one of the many illegal jetties along its international border.

"We also suspect they had used the services of human traffickers to enter Malaysia," said Nasaruddin, adding that the foreigners were believed to be headed to other states for work.

He said the 11, aged between 10 and 20, were being held for further action.
