KUALA LUMPUR: A 53-year old man today ended up in jail for the sixth time for carrying two parangs along Jalan Seri Sentosa here.

Five-time convict Foo Tuck Oon was sentenced to five years' jail by the Sessions Court after he pleaded guilty to the offence.

Judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid ordered the sentence against Foo to run from the date of his arrest on Dec 31.

Before handing down the sentence, Emilia asked the accused how many times he had gone to jail and how he ended up there.

"I have been sentenced to jail five times for being involved in fights," Foo replied.

According to the charge sheet, Foo had possessed dangerous weapons unlawfully which were two parangs that he carried in public.

The offence was committed at Jalan Seri Sentosa, Off Jalan Klang Lama, in Brickfields here, at 10.20am on Dec 31 last year.

Based on the facts of the case, the ex-convict was arrested after police found him walking nonchalantly along the road while holding one parang and another one tucked in his waistband.

The offence under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 carries a maximum imprisonment of 10 years, and whipping, upon conviction.

However, Foo was was exempted from whipping as he is more than 50 years old.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Shahrizzat Amadan prosecuted while Foo was unrepresented.
