GEORGE TOWN: A man called the police yesterday and threatened to blow up the Penang North East district police headquarters using a C4 bomb yesterday.

The call was made to the Pulau Tikus police station at 3.30pm and initially the man was attended to by an officer manning the information desk.

However, the call turned ugly when the man started to berate the officer using curse words.

North East district police chief Assistant Commissioner Che Zaimani Che Awang said the suspect became angry with the police officer who answered his call.

"During the phone conversation, the suspect was angry that the police kept arresting people and cursed the officer who answered the call," he said.

"Before hanging up, he threatened to blow up the North East district police headquarters using a C4 because he wanted to see all policemen die," Che Zaimani added.

According to him, after the threat was verbalised, a Bomb Disposal Unit team along with a team from the K-9 unit from the state contingent police headquarters were dispatched to the North East district police headquarters for investigations.

"However, checks found no bombs or explosive devices within the headquarters' compound.

"We are still tracing the suspect involved to assist in investigation pertaining to the threat," he said.
