KUDAT: An 11-year-old girl escaped from her would-be rapist as she used an ice cream stick to poke in the eye of the suspect, who’s a private taxi driver, in an incident at Tembok Panuwasa here yesterday.
In the 9am incident, the victim was travelling in the suspect’s black Perodua Viva from Pasar Sayur Kudat to her home nearby, but was brought to Tembok Panuwasa instead.
Kudat police chief Superintendent Mohd Firdaus Francis Abdullah said as soon as they arrived at the location, the suspect suddenly stopped the vehicle and tried to grab the girl’s hands.
He forced the girl to have sex with him but she refused and threatened to lodge a police report.
“The suspect then tried to cover the girl’s mouth but she put up a fight. She managed to escape after she poked his eye with an ice cream stick,” he said when contacted today.
Firdaus said she ran for help before she was reunited with her grandmother at the market by the members of the public.
“Initial checks found a scratch on the victim’s right eye and she also complained of facial pain. Based on her statement, the suspect is an old man with skinny face, grey hair and beard,” he added.
The victim also said the suspect was wearing brown shorts but she couldn’t recall the colour of his shirt.
The police are now on the hunt for the suspect and the case is being investigated under Section 14 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
