KANGAR: The High Court here today fixed Feb 21 to decide whether 15 families from Kampung Seri Kesinai need to vacate the land that they are occupying or otherwise.

Judge Abu Bakar Katar fixed the date after the counsel representing the villagers has yet to file his submission over the case.

Mohd Hapiz Razali, who is appearing on behalf of the families, said the defendant needed to go through the submission filed by the plaintiff before submitting their submission.

“I want to study the submission by the plaintiff, who is represented by counsel Fatin Hayati Abdul Rahman since today has been fixed for the filling of submissions,” he said when met at the Court Complex here.

It was reported that the 15 families are among 1,000 families who are required to vacate the land due to confusion arising over the status of the ownership of the land.

The 15 families, however, refused to vacate the land and claimed that the land belonged to the Federal Government.

The families also claimed that they were allowed to occupy the land until the government decide otherwise.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man, however, had unveiled that the land was owned privately and that the state government will not interfere with the dispute to avoid speculations.

“The land is actually owned by an individual for many years. There is possibility that the families occupying the land did not have knowledge on this (actual owner of the land).

“The land should not be transferred to others at will,” Azlan said in previous reports.
