ALOR SETAR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) yesterday arrested a manager of a Perlis government-owned quarry and a broker to facilitate investigation into alleged abuse of power involving the sale of two plots of land in the state.

A source said the duo, aged 53 and 51 was arrested at MACC office at 5.40pm when they arrived to have their statements recorded.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the manager was found to be in cahoots with the broker in the sale of the lands in Mukim Kurong Anai, Perlis, estimated to worth over RM1.8 million.

“The land acquisition was believed to have been done without the approval of the board members of state-owned Perlis Foundation. Following the arrest, the commission is also locating several other people (believed to be involved in the case),” he said. He said the duo was being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 and would be brought to the Kangar Magistrate’s Court for remand.

Meanwhile, Perlis MACC director Mohd Shukor Mahmud when contacted confirmed the arrest.

He however refused to divulge details.
