GEORGE TOWN: Police believe the Indonesian national who hacked a woman to death with a parang inside a frozen food storage area at a factory in Kampung Selamat, Tasek Gelugor yesterday, is still in the vicinity.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said police investigation revealed that the 31-year-old suspect was still in the neighbourhood, and believed he would be nabbed soon.

“Based on our probe and intelligence, we believe the suspect is nearby Tasek Gelugor and we are hunting him down,” he said when contacted today.

In the 3.50pm incident yesterday, the suspect ran amok and hacked three people - the 44-year-old deceased, her 14-year-old son and a 17-year-old relative.

The suspect was believed to be unhappy over the payment of salary.

Soon after the attack, he fled on a blue Yamaha motorcycle, bearing registration plate PBM 1524.

The deceased, Sia Seok Kee, died on the way to hospital following severe injuries to the head and face.

It is learnt that the suspect had been working in the factory for a year. The factory belongs to the deceased’s brother.

Noorzainy said the two injured were still being treated at the hospital and were in stable condition.
