KOTA BARU: A contractor was charged at the Sessions Court here today with raping his stepdaughter last year.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge that was read to him before Judge Ahmad Bazli Bahruddin.
The 57-year-old man was charged with raping the 11-year-old girl at a house on Jalan Bahagia in Machang at 8am on Nov 6, 2017.
He is charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which provides a maximum imprisonment of 30 years and a minimum of 10 lashes of the rotan, upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Raya Hajarul Falenna Abu Bakar prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyer Latifah Ariffin.
Judge Ahmad Bazli granted bail at RM15,000 and ordered the accused not to disturb the victim.
The accused was also ordered to report to the nearest police station.
The court then set Dec 20 for case mention.
