KOTA BHARU: A Math teacher pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here to molesting two pupils in May.

The 42-year-old accused made the plea in front of Judge Ahmad Bazli Bahruddin.

According to the charges, the accused allegedly touched the body of a 12-year-old pupil in a classroom at a school in Bachok at 10.30am in May.

He was also accused of performing the same indecent act towards another 12-year-old pupil at the same location at 9am.

The accused, who was represented by his lawyer Rohizan Othman, was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

Deputy prosecutor Norazlinawati Mohd Arshad prosecuted.

Earlier, Norazlinawati asked for the accused to not be granted bail for fear that the accused may disturb the victims. However, Rohizan appealed for a minimum bail.

Ahmad Bazli set the bail at RM20,000 for both charges and fixed Oct 2 for the re-mention of the case.
