PUTRAJAYA: The political secretary of Human Resources Minister was remanded for six days to assist the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) investigations into misappropriation of government funds.

The remand order on the 61-year-old 'Datuk', effective today until Oct 3, was issued by magistrate Azizah Ahmad.

The man, clad in orange MACC lockup attire, arrived at the Putrajaya magistrate's court at 9.45am.

He was being investigated under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009 for giving or accepting gratification by agent.

The man who is a member of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), attached to its Serian branch, was detained at the MACC headquarters here at 12.30pm yesterday after having his statement recorded.

It was reported that the probe involves misappropriation of allocation channeled into the Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK).

The man is the fifth to be arrested in connection with the probe. Four people were arrested earlier this month at several locations in Kuala Lumpur.

The four were a 58-year-old Datuk, who is PTPK chief executive; PTPK secretary, 34; PTPK assistant finance officer, 32; and a company director, 38.

Initial investigations revealed that they had embezzled RM15 million in 2016 and RM25 million this year.

The PTPK was established in June 2006 under the Skills Development Fund Act 2004 (Act 640) to manage the Skills Development Fund, which was previously run by the Skills Development Fund Division under the Human Resources Ministry.
