SANDAKAN: Two masked men armed with a samurai sword robbed a staff at a hotel here early Saturday morning.

Police received a report of the robbery at 1.45am yesterday, after the men escaped with RM1,500 in cash and four mobile phones.

It was reported that a female hotel staff and her younger sister were threatened with the sword at Hotel Tyng Garden in Bandar Tyng.

The 24-year-old victim, who was working the night shift, was with her sister at the hotel’s office counter when they heard a loud noise outside at around 12.11am.

They then saw a man wearing a face mask, who brandished a samurai sword as he barged into the office and ordered them to take out all their valuables.

“Within two minutes another suspect, also with his face covered, entered, and the frightened victim handed over the hotel safety box containing RM1,500 and the mobile phones,” the police statement said.

The total loss was estimated at around RM3,500.

Both girls took the opportunity to run and locked themselves inside the toilet when the two suspects were busy talking.

After the suspects left, the victim went out to inform the security guard, who was at the back of the hotel, and the police.

Both suspects are in believed to be in their twenties and the police are asking those with information to come forward.
