KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department has detained 12 foreign workers offering car wash services at a petrol station on a highway in Petaling Jaya.

Its director-general, Datuk Ruslin Jusoh, said the raid was conducted following public complaints about foreign nationals working at the premises.

"The department held an enforcement operation last Tuesday at noon involving 17 officers from the Enforcement Division of the department's headquarters in Putrajaya.

"During the operation, the papers of the 12 foreigners were checked. They are from Bangladesh, aged between 25 and 35.

"They were detained for offences under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, which is not possessing a valid pass or document to enter Malaysia, and violating Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963, which is breaching pass conditions, among others," he said.

Ruslin added that all detainees were taken to the Bukit Jalil Immigration Depot.

"Strict action will also be taken against anyone who employs and shelters illegal immigrants," he added.
