TANJUNG MALIM: Six people were killed when a trailer crashed head-on into the Ssangyong MPV they were travelling in at Km403.3 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) near the Tanjung Malim toll plaza this morning.

The deceased, believed to be from the same family, have been identified as car driver Lam Wai Loon, 46, Lam Jie Hong, 13, Lam Jie Yang, 19, Lam Wai Keat, 35, Lam Leong Choy, 76 and Wong Check Lee, 53.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the trailer driver lost control of his vehicle when one of the vehicle’s tyres burst in the 7.30am incident.

"As a result, the trailer crashed and landed on a moving MPV travelling in the opposite lane,” he said when contacted.

The impact of the collision was so great that the massive trailer overturned onto the MPV, crushing the vehicle.

"We received a distress call at 7.41am and fire engines from the Tanjung Malim and Kuala Kubu Baru stations were immediately dispatched to the scene," said the spokesman.
