KOTA TINGGI: An Indonesian worker died while another is still missing after a cave-in incident at a sand mine in Jalan Kluang - Kota Tinggi here on Friday morning.

As of this afternoon, a search and rescue operation by the Fire and Rescue Department is still on-going.

In the 10.30 am incident, the two Indonesians were buried alive in a 15 metre deep hole following the cave-in.

The body of Saiful Bahri, in his 30s, was extricated by members of the public at about 2pm.

However, the other victim, Noor Norudin, 45, is still missing.

A Johor Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the department only received an emergency call regarding the incident at 7.24 pm.

"However, we could not take any further action because of the earth movement at the scene. At the moment, we are just monitoring the location since any SAR operation could not be done because of the unsafe conditions," he said.

He said based on the information, the missing victim is believed to have been buried in the hole.
