BUKIT MERTAJAM: A veterinary officer who allegedly beat his wife in a lift three years ago caused a commotion outside the courtroom today.

Mohammad Affandi Ismail, 38, told pressmen here in Bukit Mertajam Magistrate's Court that journalists are "provoking his anger" today.

"Journalists are causing unrest to me for pictures...this is an act of provocation...I feel uncomfortable," he said and shooed the reporters here.

Affandi allegedly bashed his wife inside the lift of KPJ Hospital on Aug 12, 2013 at around 4pm.

He has been charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing harm.

The offense carries a maximum one-year jail term or RM2,000 fine, or both, upon conviction.
