KEPALA BATAS: MANUSREE Anandan was the most successful martial arts exponent in the 6th Penang Remaja Inter Club Invitational Taekwondo Championships recently.

She won the girls 9 to 11 years age group's flyweight gold for the fifth time during the sixth edition of the championships held at the Dewan Millenium here.

Manusree did not participate in the first championships but as a six-year-old, she entered its second edition, won it and has retained her title since.

The RTS Taekwondo Club member also collected the Best Performance award at this year's national Nestle Koko Krunch Junior Taekwondo Championships.

But the 11-year-old SK Seberang Jaya Year Five pupil admitted the competition was getting tougher as more and more athletes were taking up the sport and next year she will be moving to the higher age-group.

Organising committee chairman Rajendran Rajoo said 18 taekwondo clubs from Kedah, Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Kelantan, Pahang and Penang took part in the meet.

The competition featured the boys' and girls' 9 to 11, and 15 to 17 age groups in 10 categories: finweight, flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, light middleweight, middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight.

Exponents from Perak's RSB Taekwondo Club won 10 golds, one silver and three bronze medals to capture the overall title.

Adventure Taekwondo Club collected 4-1-4 for the second spot while hosts RTS took 3-5-14 to settle for the third spot.
