KUALA LUMPUR: About RM47 million of contributions in the Teachers Provident Fund (KWSG) still remain unclaimed, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the ministry would endeavour to find the KWSG contributors and return the money, adding that the last contribution was recorded in 2007.

"Currently, KWSG has RM47,761,320 in cash and RM254,931,779 in assets.

"We will ensure the contributors are paid their contributions as they have served the nation," he said when winding up the debate on the 2014 Tun Hussein Onn Foundation bill, here.

In this regard, he said the issue that the rights of the contributors were denied after KWSG was dissolved, did not arise.

The bill was tabled by Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan to set up the Tun Hussein Onn Foundation corporation in the Dewan on April 7.

The foundation will take over the function and role of KWSG, which was proposed to dissolved by the bill.

Idris also ruled out a duplication of functions between the foundation and the Education Ministry because what would be implemented by the foundation would be ensured to be consistent with the increase in the level of professionalism of the teaching profession.

The Dewan sits again tomorrow.
