KUALA LUMPUR: The amendments to the Unclaimed Moneys Act 1965 (Act 370) will allow only rightful owners of unclaimed money to be given access to their information.

Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying said the Account Division has ensured that the system of unclaimed money incorporates security features established by the Chief Government Security Officer (CGSO) and the Digital Ministry to prevent information leaks and protect the confidentiality of users' data.

"Based on Section 10A of the Act currently, the record of unclaimed money must be gazetted for public review through statements gazetted by Percetakan Nasional Malaysia Bhd either through hard copy or digital copy through the gazette," she said.

Lim said this during her winding-up speech of the Unclaimed Moneys (Amendment) Bill tabled for second and third reading in Dewan Negara, today.

The bill, aimed at enhancing the management of unclaimed money, has been approved through a voice vote called by Dewan Negara President Datuk Mutang Tagal.
