KANGAR: Some 20 families were forced to seek shelter at three relocation centres in Beseri and Abi here when their homes were hit by flash flood after the authority was compelled to release water from Timah Tasoh Dam surpassed its danger level late last night.

Water level at the dam was recorded at 29.69 metres, surpassing the danger level following a continuous downpour in the state, forcing the Drainage and Irrigation Department to open the dam's six water gates by 200mm at about midnight.

The families were relocated to Dewan Seri Malau and Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Beseri late last night while the third relief centre, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Abi was opened this morning.
