GEORGE TOWN: VISITORS to Gurney Plaza, here, had the chance to gain insight into the lives of those living with a debilitating illness and their caregivers.

The Charis Hospice Palliative Care photography exhibition attracted thousands over its run of seven days.

The exhibition featured 32 images contributed by acclaimed Malaysian photographers. Each image tells a personal story, which prompts the viewer to see beyond the photograph.

Although the stories tell of pain and struggle, sorrow and stoicism, they also revealed depths of strength and fortitude.

Charis Hospice medical director Dr Oo Loo Chan said many were unaware of the important role that compassionate palliative care played in the quality of life of those with terminal illnesses.

“Palliative care is about providing patients with holistic care to encourage them to live in a meaningful way.

“It also helps to bring about a dignified closure for both the patient and the family,” she said.

The campaign is supported by Malaysian celebrities Hans Isaac, Daphne Iking, Sheila Majid and Elaine Daly, whose photographs formed part of the exhibition.
