KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) is still looking for the right coach to handle the national junior team.

As it is, there are not many local coaches of calibre for the national junior team who were disbanded in January following a series of poor results.

Amin Rahim, assisted by Megat Azrafiq, Baljit Singh and Roslan Jamaluddin, coached the national side for the Junior World Cup in Bukit Jalil last December. Malaysia finished a disappointing 12th out of 16 teams.

MHC Coaching Committee chairman Datuk Majid Manjit Abdullah said at the moment they have not appointed any coach for the junior team.

"We will appoint a junior coach later."

The coaches that could be considered by MHC are K. Rajan, Jiwa Mogan, M. Kaliswaran and Eugene Lee.

New national head coach Sarjit Singh will oversee the senior and junior teams.

"We want the same pattern of play for both the senior and junior teams. In the past, the junior team had their own style of play while the seniors under a different coach had their own style of play.

"We will call a large pool of players in preparation for the Junior Asia Cup in China in December after Hari Raya next month."
