GEORGE TOWN: FOUR cars were badly damaged after a giant billboard collapsed on them during a heavy storm here last night.

The 7.30pm incident took place near the Krystal Point building in Bayan Baru.

The storm brought the billboard down on top of a Citroen, BMW, Perodua Myvi and Kelisa which were parked nearby.

A witness who want to be known as Mariam, 24, said she only heard a loud crash, a few minutes after the storm started.

“I thought a big stone had fallen. But I was shocked to find that sound came from the fallen billboard. I ran to the nearest building for cover.”

Penang Fire and Rescue Department senior commander Abdul Rahim Ismail said they found a 2m- by-4m billboard, which was previously fixed on the rooftop of the building, had toppled and smashed the vehicles.

Luckily, he said there were no reports of casualties or injuries.

“We have asked the management of the building to vacate the place for cleaning works.” He said the billboard was believed to have fallen off due to strong winds.
