KUALA LUMPUR: Actor and businessman Aeril Zafrel suffered a mystery illness after his father died in 2010.
Aeril, 36, said that the illness was "bad enough" to slow down his acting career as it caused him "days of great pain".
"I had severe body aches every time the sun went down. After Maghrib prayers, I began to have breathing difficulties too," he said in a recent Sera Podcast episode.
Aeril also said that he "puked strange things out".
"That was terrifying – out of me came small pieces of wire, small nails, incense, and even sand!
"I didn't know how they could have entered my body, this all looked like black magic."
Aeril sought treatment from a traditional Islamic medicine practitioner, and he gradually recovered from his mysterious illness.
"Even though it was a terrifying illness, I learned something useful from it – I became good at starring in horror films since the illness was just like a real-life horror film for me."
