KUALA LUMPUR: Starlet Ira Kazar has emerged as the most searched person this year on Google Malaysia.

A news article reported this yesterday, quoting the company in its press release of its Year In Search 2023 report, which also stated that Malaysians "love being in the know about the hottest news", especially when they involve public figures.

Ira, 28, had been in the spotlight since 2019 when she was alleged to be the third person in film director Syamsul Yusof and actress Puteri Sarah Liyana's marriage.

The conflict shook the local entertainment industry and its followers especially after Syamsul was reported to have wedded Ira secretly in Southern Thailand on Jan 6.

Puteri Sarah later filed for divorce, and the couple finally divorced in June.

Both Puteri Sarah and Syamsul also made to the top 10 in the most searched person list, coming in at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively.

Others in the list include comedienne Jocelyn Chia (No. 2) followed by Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh (No. 3) who won the Oscar for Best Actress in March.

Celebrity couple who tied the knot in October, Angeline Tan and Sabri Yunus, are at No. 4 and No. 9 respectively.

In terms of top 10 searches under News, top spot goes to Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah, followed by the war in Israel and Gaza, and the Malaysian state elections in August.

Meanwhile, the eBelia Rahmah is at No. 6 spot in the list.
