KUALA LUMPUR: Director Jin Ong's critically acclaimed film Abang Adik won Best Actor at the 60th Golden Horse Awards in Taipei, Taiwan last Sunday.
The film's main actor Wu Kang-Ren of Taiwan bagged the Best Actor award for his portrayal of a deaf orphan who loves and cares for his rebellious younger brother.
In his acceptance speech, Wu said: "Thank you Jin for this beautiful story of brotherly love and thank you to the cast and crew for a great job. You guys are amazing."
Abang Adik received seven nominations including Best New Director, Best New Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Original Song, Best Makup, Best Costume and Best Supporting Actor for Jack Tan.
It won the Viewers' Choice and Ecumenical Jury Award at the 37th Fribourg Film Festival in Switzerland last March.
It also won three awards at the 25th Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy last April namely the Golden Mulberry, Black Dragon and White Mulberry Awards, and became the first Southeast Asian film to win these awards.
Abang Adik also won Best Feature Film at the New York Asian Film Festival last August and Best Performance at the China First Film Festival last July.
