KUALA LUMPUR: Controversy-embroiled director Syamsul Yusof ended speculation about his marital status by confirming that he had taken on a second wife, Ira Kazar, today.

The 39-year-old artiste shared the news via a video clip that he uploaded on his Instagram account today.

Without disclosing the location of the solemnisation ceremony, the event was attended by Ira's father, veteran actor Kazar Saisi, who served as wali.

"Today I am the husband of Ira with her father Saisi as wali. Ira is legally my wife now by Shariah law and in the eyes of Allah," he said.

Syamsul added: "I have wedded Ira lawfully and not in Thailand as allegedly rumoured. There's a reason I chose to marry here in order to make several things easier."

The Mat Kilau Kebangkitan Pahlawan director explained that the marriage had already been registered and that Puteri Sarah Liyana was still his first wife.

"I want to make it clear that Puteri Sarah is still my wife. To Puteri Sarah, I'm hoping for your return.

"Come home so that we can discuss this instead of airing everything on social media. Bring our children back.

"To be frank, taking the kids here and there without the husband's permission… I'm still your husband. I don't want to say too much, just think about it," he said.

Syamsul also let on that he had no intention to turn his back on his family.

"It has never occurred to me to turn my back on my family. I hope for good prayers from parents, siblings and family.

"I pray that my decision will be blessed and shielded by Allah from whatever untruths, envy and bad intentions.

"Most importantly, I hope for the best prayers of others. I am not a perfect human being, there are times when I err," he said.
