KUALA LUMPUR: Strong storylines and characters are two main elements animation productions need to focus on if they want to collaborate with Primeworks Studios.

Media Prima Television Networks (MPTN) and Primeworks Studios' chief executive officer Datuk Khairul Anwar Salleh said that this was to ensure standard of quality so that the works could also compete in the global market.

"So far, we have received many proposals pitching new ideas, but we are still evaluating them, using the two successful animation titles under PWS, Ejen Ali and Alif & Sofia, as our yardstick.

"While the pandemic had also slowed down the development of animation projects just like the others in the past two years, PWS is ready and willing to look at new projects which could be developed in future," he said during Media Prima Toonz (MP Toonz) webinar session organised by MPTN's Licensing & Merchandising Division today.

Khairul Anwar added that good storylines and characters were salient to catch audiences' attention and they were what the market wanted.

"Besides looking for works that will be well received in Malaysia, they should also appeal to other Malay speaking countries in the region," he said.
