KUALA LUMPUR: Singer, actor and television host Alif Satar may not have gone to the ground to help flood victims, but he has successfully raised RM50,000 for them in three hours.

The 31-year-old One In A Million 1 second runner-up, who is currently in Langkawi on the set of his new film Pulau, raised funds for the needy via social media with friends.

"I want to thank everyone who has worked extra fast to contribute money to flood victims around the Klang Valley. We will use the money to purchase basic necessities for them," he said in an interview with Harian Metro today.

"Thank God, many Malaysians have come forward to lend a helping hand. I am glad that my influence as a celebrity has encouraged many kind and generous Malaysians to give help to those who need it most."

Alif also said that while the volunteers and organisations he was working with distributed food aid to Klang Valley residents, they might extend such help to people in other parts of the country later.

"Due to safety and resource limitations, we are confining our operations to Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. I have relatives who have been affected by the massive floods, too.

"It is really heart-wrenching to see how the people, especially old folks and children, are suffering trapped inside their houses. All of us must do our part to make sure they have sufficient necessities to survive."
