HONOR has unveiled the HONOR Magic V2, which is set to be the thinnest and lightest inward foldable smartphones in the market to date.
Launching on Jan 16, the device weighs a mere 231g and measures at 9.9mm after folding, ushering foldable smartphones into the millimetre era.
The conventional belief was that foldable smartphones would not be able to be thinner than 1cm, with the main barrier being the Type-C interface.
However, HONOR chief executive officer George Zhao said: "Foldable screens require breaking the existing evolutionary thinking that thickness is limited by the Type-C interface and hinge materials, while the weight is restricted by various components.
"Everything tells you it's impossible. But the only thing we need to remember is, what do consumers need the most in a product?"
Thanks to HONOR's research and development team with over 8,000 outstanding talents worldwide, the tech giant came up with a design breakthrough — instead of viewing foldable smartphones as a fusion of two screens, the HONOR Magic V2 splits the bar phone into two.
A key contributor to the slimness of the HONOR Magic V2 is its silicon carbon battery, which follows in the footsteps of electric vehicle (EV) car batteries.
The 5,000mAh battery measures only 2.72mm, ensuring a sleek profile without compromising on battery life.
The HONOR Magic V2 integrates over 180 patented technologies, including a self-developed surround antenna, Ultra-thin Bionic Cooling System, dual-unit speaker components and slim-focused Type-C interface module, all contributing to the device's slim and lightweight construction.
HONOR has also incorporated titanium alloy material into the HONOR Magic V2 hinge caps and central axis, while employing HONOR's self-developed Shield Steel, which reduces thickness by 25 per cent and increases strength by 20 per cent.
The foldable smartphone is capable of folding over 400,000 times, and has earned the SGS High Reliability Folding Quality Gold Standard Certification.
HONOR will be officially launching the HONOR Magic V2 on January 16, with more details and pricing to be released.
