Fasten is an ingenious system for removing and replacing the rear wheel of a bicycle. It's practical and, above all, very fast -- and it doesn't require touching the chain.

The invention is the work of a Frenchman, Jean-Paul Lagar, and was crowned with an award at Eurobike 2021.

This truly revolutionary fastening system allows the rear wheel of a bike to be changed in just a few seconds, without any tools.

In fact, Fasten is based on the same principle as the front wheel of a bike, since here, the bearings are not in the wheels, but in the frame or in the fork. As a result, the very notion of front and rear wheel is irrelevant, since in both cases, they attach in the same way.

Between the transmission chain that needs to be put back in place and the braking system that must not be damaged, changing the rear wheel of a bike usually requires some precautions. But with Fasten, this is no longer the case.

Fasten also secures the axles. In fact, these remain on the bike, so there is no longer any (greased) element to dismantle, with the risk of getting damaging or dirtied.

Fasten's designer Jean-Paul Lagar is confident that the first model will adopt this system in 2022. In any case, he is in talks with several manufacturers. --ETX Daily Up
