KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak on Saturday inked four memoranda of understanding and two memoranda of agreement with four prestigious universities in Uzbekistan.

The deals were signed by Unimas vice-chancellor Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit during the Uzbekistan-Malaysia Business Forum held in Samarkand.

The four Uzbek universities are Tashkent State University of Economics, the International School of Finance Technology and Science (ISFT Institute), Renaissance Education University, and Turan International University.

"These collaborations mark a new chapter in the academic and research landscape for both Malaysia and Uzbekistan," said a statement from the university.

It said the documents were exchanged in the presence of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister and Investments and Foreign Trade Minister Jamshid Khodjaev.

"These (MoU and MoA) aim to foster extensive collaboration in various areas, including student and staff exchanges, mobility programmes, research collaborations, international matching grants and training and development initiatives.

"These efforts will enhance educational and cultural exchanges, promoting mutual growth and understanding between Malaysia and Uzbekistan.

"This strategic collaboration marks a pivotal step in strengthening the academic and cultural ties between Malaysia and Uzbekistan, paving the way for future collaborations and mutual development for both nations," said the statement.
