Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) will disburse RM1 million worth of scholarships to 52 outstanding varsity students pursuing undergraduate, Masters and PhD degrees in September.

Students from all universities nationwide can start applying in August with a minimum requirement of 3.5 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) for local students and 3.75 CGPA for international students.

According to UiTM vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Azraai Kassim, the scholarship is obtained through a trust fund set up on behalf of the UiTM Endowment Fund on February 26, this year. It is a collective contribution from corporates, alumni and private donations to help potential students in higher education, he added.

"The UiTM Endowment Scholarship will aid students financially with monthly allowance, tuition fee and other expenses," he said.

The scholarship is allocated to 40 undergraduates, three Masters students and three local PhD students.

Meanwhile, the remaining spots are for international Masters and PhD students to support their research in respective fields.

He added that the Masters and PhD scholarships for international students will inspire the university's research agenda in leading specific research areas such as Industrial Technology, Logistics, Transportation, Innovation and Social Creativity.

Mohd Azraai further explained that the provision of the scholarship seeks to help excellent students through sustainable financial assistance. In turn, this will elevate the university to a higher standard by strengthening the quality of its students and faculties.

"The scholarship initiative is one of UiTM's aggressive approaches to becoming a world-leading university by 2025," he said.
