KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session higher, driven by positive market environment and strong corporate earnings.

At 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose0.19 per cent or 3.12 points to 1,606.03 from Monday's close of 1,602.91.

The benchmark index opened 1.04 points lower at 1,601.62 and fluctuated between 1,601.44 and 1,607.42 during the session.

On the broader market, gainers outnumbered losers in the broader market 550 to 479, with 473 counters unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 2.77 billion units worth RM1.64 billion.

Malacca Securities expects the buying support to stay healthy on the local front, despite the market turning sideways in the US.

"The recent release of results from selected technology companies were above market's expectations.

"This is coupled with the narratives of an increased demand from artificial intelligence (AI)-driven activities as well as higher investments within the data centers should provide upside opportunities within the technology sector," it said in a note today.

The firm prefers stocks within the construction, property, building materials, utilities and consumers on the back of local driven catalysts.
