KUANTAN: Scania (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has seen an increase in delivery for heavy vehicles since June following the zero rating of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Scania Southeast Asia pre-sales director Tom Kuiphuis said customers had been taking the opportunity to place their orders while zero GST and Scania was diligently delivering the trucks and buses.

"The market has been extremely active and Scania is working consistently to deliver the heavy vehicles to customers within the promised time. At the moment, Scania has sufficient vehicles to meet the customer demands.

"In terms of delivery, the output in a month has been 60 to 70 per cent higher compared to the previous months (before zero GST). In fact, there has been a huge improvement in delivery since early this year compared to 2017 and the zero GST has certainly given an extra boost," he said after witnessing the handing over of the keys to customers who recently purchased Scania vehicles for their business and transport requirements at the Kuantan service facility in Semambu here.

Kuiphuis said the deliveries of Scania trucks in first seven months of 2018 had seen a steep increase thus equaling the total number of trucks delivered throughout 2017.

"However, it will be tough to predict once the Sales and Services Tax (SST) is implemented...we expect to continue to see a high demand for our vehicles throughout 2018," he said.

He said among the top selling models were the Scania G410LA6x2MSZ a popular long-haulage truck, Scania K360IB4x2 (single-decker-coach) and Scania K410EB6x2 (double-decker coach).

Meanwhile in conjunction with Scania's open day yesterday at the Scania service facility here, two Scania Malaysia's customers received the keys to the vehicles which they had recently purchased.

Hin Tat Recycling Sdn Bhd purchased five units of the Scania G410LA6x2MSZ trucks while Sekolah Sains Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah's parent-teacher association acquired a Scania K310IB4X2 bus for its students.

Scania Southeast Asia sales director Daniel Tan, who presented the keys at the event, said Scania was proud to be a partner for both the customers for its long-haul operations.
