KUALA LUMPUR: Pharmaniaga Bhd, the country's largest pharmaceutical company, recently became the latest company to embrace the SAP HANA (high performance analytic appliance) platform in an effort to drive greater productivity and operational efficiencies.

Pharmaniaga had deployed the SAP S/4HANA solution, a real-time enterprise resource management suite for digital business.

SAP S/4HANA is built on SAP’s advanced in-memory platform, SAP HANA, and offers a personalised, consumer-grade user experience.

This new system implementation is aimed at providing an avenue for Pharmaniaga to elevate its effectiveness and efficiency in managing production orders, quality management, delivery and product costing.

“The Internet of Things (IoT) and System Integration are the two out of nine main pillars in the Industry 4.0. We have embraced this new revolution and set our sights on further growth as we become increasingly aware on the importance and needs of digital technology in our organisation to enhance the works productivity and efficiency using the best practises,” said Pharmaniaga managing director Datuk Farshila Emran at the Pharmaniaga ‘Go Live’ ceremony held recently.

"We began looking at several vendors in the market since 2015 to assist us in transforming our existing system and through this filterisation, we found SAP is able to cater to our requirements in providing end-to-end solutions that matches our business needs,” she added.

When contacted, SAP Malaysia managing director Terrence Yong said there is growing momentum for the adoption of SAP HANA platform in Malaysia.

Yong also cited the case of Cenviro which had deployed multiple SAP solutions to facilitate business process simplification and improve decision making.

The first phase includes an industry specific utilities solution called 'SAP Suite on S/4 HANA with IS-U for Waste Management' which incorporates best practices for waste management within an integrated system.

“SAP S/4HANA is the digital core that integrates technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, real-time analytics, mobile, business networks, third-party systems, and more,” said Yong.

“SAP’s HANA platform empowers enterprises to segment high volumes customer data at unparalleled speed.

“The power of SAP HANA enables enterprises to work with large amounts of granular data to better understand customer demands, behaviors and preferences – targeting the precise audience with the right offers across every customer segments, tactics and channels,” he added.

SAP HANA is an in-memory computing platform that has completely transformed the relational database industry in recent years.

It combines database, application processing, and integration services on a single platform.

The same architecture also provides libraries for predictive, planning, text processing, spatial, and business analytics.
