RESIDENTS of Inanam, Sabah are upset over the sale of contraband cigarettes in the open.
Mother-of-three Vivien Lee said the sellers did their activities at an area opposite the wet market.
“There are many of them, and they are doing it even during the day.
“They know there is a lack of enforcement, because Inanam is on the outskirts of the capital city,” she said.
Teacher Nuraida Ahmad, 44, said the rampant selling of contraband cigarettes was an eyesore.
“I hope none of my students will fall victim to these syndicates and become smokers,” she said.

Inanam assemblyman Kenny Chua said the authorities were aware of the situation and doing their best to address it.
“Police, Customs and City Hall have been working undercover to nab the culprits.
“Their target is the mastermind of the syndicate, and not the small fry who are selling the illicit items.”
Chua said the public could play a role in curbing the trade by refusing to buy the contraband.
