KUALA LUMPUR: It was the end of Malaysia's interest in the Australia Open as three players fell in the quarter-finals today.

Chan Yiwen lost 11-5, 11-3, 11-6, 11-4 in 36 minutes to fourth seed Tomato Ho of Hong Kong.

Despite the defeat, she was satisfied with her run in the tournament.

"It was my first quarter-final appearance in a bronze-level tournament, so this is a sign of progress. I hope to do better in the German Open next month," said Yiwen, who won the Hong Kong Challenge Cup last month.

Compatriot Aira Azman failed to shine, losing 11-8, 11-5, 11-6 to top seed Egyptian Salma Hany, while third seed Rachel Arnold lost 11-7, 7-11, 11-3, 11-5 to fifth seed Sana Ibrahim of Egypt.
