KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia once again emerged overall champions at the Asia Bowls Championships, which concluded at the Coco Indoor Bowls Club in Thailand yesterday.

National lawn bowl players were able to win three gold, two silver and two bronze to top the medal table.

Philippines (3-1-3) and India (2-0-3) came in second and third overall at the end of the seven-day competition.

Malaysia's gold medals were won by Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple in the men's singles event, Soufi Rusli, Idham Amin Ramlan and Fadley Jabal (men's triples) and Aleena Nawawi, Farah Ain Abdullah, Nur Ain Nabilah Tarmizi and Syafiqa Haidar Rahman (women's team).

The silver medals were won by Farah Ain, Alyani Jamil and Syafiqa (women's triples) as well as Fadley, Hizlee Abdul Rais, Idham and Soufi in the men's team event.

The bronze medals were delivered by Alyani in the women's singles, and Hizlee and Izzat Shamee in the men's pairs.

The Asian meet was in its 15th edition this year. Malaysia has dominated the competition over the years and had claimed the overall win 13 times.

The Philippines will host the competition next year.
